Ambassador Shri Harsh Jain delivered the opening address at the Mini-ENU Model United Nations Conference 2016 held at the Eurasian National University, Nur-Sultan with the theme “One Human Family, One Home” on 18th October, 2016. The event was organized by students of ENU to mark the International Day for Eradication of Poverty (17th October) and the United Nations Day (24th October).

In his address, Ambassador said that the United Nations is the most representative intergovernmental organization that aims to promote and facilitate cooperation between the member states to solve the issues relating to international law and security, economic and social development, human rights, political freedom and environment. He recalled his association with the organization as a member of the United Nations Group of Governmental Experts on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security in 2012-13. He said that the theme of the Conference: “One Human Family, One Home” reminded him of an ancient Indian sutra, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, which means the “World is one Family”. He added that this sutra is deeply ingrained in Indian psyche that helps Indian people to respect diversity while maintaining their respective individual identity.

The Eurasian National University organizes the Mini-ENU Model UN Conference for university students annually with the objective to deepen the understanding of the students about the work of the United Nations. Five students of the Eurasian National University attended the International Model United Nations hosted by KIIT University, Bhubaneswar in India from October 22-24, 2016.
